1. What method of payment will you accept?

Personal Checks or Cash accepted

Tax Liens must be paid with Certified Funds. (Cashiers Check)

Online Payments

The payment processor will add the following fees to your total at checkout. These convenience fees are not collected by Ouray County, and are non-refundable.

Credit/Debit Cards

2.40% ($2.00 minimum) Credit/debit card limit is $50,000.00 with no minimum. No more than 100 parcels at one time. If an email address is provided you will receive a receipt.

E-Checks 

$1.50 per transaction. Electronic check (echeck) limit is $50,000.00 with no minimum and no more than 100 parcels at one time.

Auto-Payments

You will now have the option to set up an account to have payments taken directly out of your checking account. Partial payments will be accepted as long as the balance is paid by the due date. If not, a 10% penalty will be applied to the balance

Phone Payments

Phone payments can now be made by calling 1-844-962-0900. Credit and debit cards are charged a 2.4% convenience fee with a $2.00 minimum charge and electronic checks are charged a $1.50 flat fee. No more than 1 parcel may be paid per phone call. Credit and debit card limit is $250,000.00 with no minimum. Electronic check limit is $50,000.00 with no minimum. 

Reminder: We cannot accept your credit card payment over the phone or over the counter.

2. When are the taxes due?

You have your choice of paying the taxes in one payment or in two separate payments.

If you choose to pay all the taxes at once, the taxes are due by April 30.

If you choose to pay in two separate payments, the first half is due by the last day of February, and the second half is due by June 15.

Partial payments (other than the two half payments mentioned above) are not accepted.

3. Do you accept postmarks?

Yes, we do accept United States Postal Service postmarks showing that the current year tax payment was mailed on or by the payment deadline date.

4. What if my taxes are paid by a mortgage company?

Colorado Revised Statutes mandate that the treasurer mail the Property Tax Statement to the owner of record, as their name and address is listed on the Tax Roll certified by the County Assessor. Therefore, your mortgage company does not receive a copy of the Property Tax Statement (nor will we mail them a duplicate copy).

Most mortgage companies request payment information directly from this office. If you feel your mortgage company needs a copy of your Property Tax Statement, you will need to make a copy of your tax bill and send it to them.

5. What if I do not get a tax notice?

Failure of any person to receive their annual tax statement shall not preclude collection by the treasurer of the amount of taxes due and payable by such person (Colorado Revised Statutes: 39-10-103 (1)(a)).

Applicable delinquent interest and other charges shall apply to delinquent payments (Colorado Revised Statutes: 39-10-104.5).

If you do not receive a tax notice by January 31, please contact the Ouray County Treasurer's Office at 970-325-4487, and a duplicate bill will be sent to you.

6. What if my mailing address changes?

You are responsible for changing your mailing address with the assessor’s or treasurer's office. Contact the assessor at 970-325-4371, or contact the treasurer at 970-325-4487.

7. What is the charge if I am late on a payment?

By state statute, a 1% late fee is charged for each month the current year property taxes are late, for more information view the delinquent tax interest chart.
