FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Ouray County Declares Emergency Disaster for Rockfall on CR-361
Ouray County, Colo – This morning, the Ouray County Road & Bridge Superintendent met with an official from Buckhorn Engineering for a site visit of the rockfall on CR-361 / Camp Bird Road. Further analysis was conducted, and officials confirmed their previous assessment from Wednesday, February 26, 2025, that the area of CR-361 / Camp Bird Road that sustained significant damage from rockfall on February 25, is not safe for any mode of travel, including foot traffic.
After this latest analysis from Buckhorn, and further discussions between county administration, road and bridge, emergency management, and county sheriff, it was determined essential to declare an emergency for this area, due to the severity of the damage, and equipment necessary for full mitigation and repair.
This declaration activates the Ouray County Emergency Operations Plan, opens the Emergency Operations Center if deemed necessary by Unified Command, sets forth the platform for emergency preparedness and response, including mutual aid agreements with other jurisdictions as the Unified Command Team determines is necessary.
The temporary road closure remains in effect with the Sheriff’s Office enforcing any violations of disregard to formal traffic control devices and road closure notices.
