Emergency Management

The Ouray County Emergency Manager is responsible for the preparation of evacuation plans and emergency relief procedures that the County can quickly execute in the event of a disaster. When a disaster occurs, the Emergency Manager, under the direction of the Ouray County Sheriff may take the lead to implement the plans that have been created, working with law enforcement, emergency medical services, government personnel and rescue professionals.

Wireless Emergency Notification System (WENS) is a general system of text messages that is sent when the recipient might be affected by something occurring in Ouray County. Recipients can choose to receive notification of Avalanche Notifications, Road Maintenance updates, and general notices. You can sign up by clicking the icon above and following the prompts. In order to opt into the Avalanche Notifications, Road Maintenance Updates or Controlled Burn Notices, you must email Ouray County Emergency Manager at gboyd@ouraycountyco.gov after you sign up for the service.
