Responsibilities

The Ouray County Sheriff's Office is responsible for law enforcement services and fire protection for the unincorporated areas of the county.

Mission Statement

The Ouray County Sheriff's Office is committed to providing the citizens of Ouray County with effective and efficient law enforcement. We will apply the laws of the State of Colorado, and the constitution, justly and consistently while treating every individual with dignity, courtesy, and respect.

Controlled Burn Notices

If you wish to file an Open Burn Permit, please call Montrose County Dispatch non-emergency line at (970) 252-4020. A Wireless Emergency Notification System (WENS) notice will be sent out to all subscribers. Properly reporting planning and controlled burns helps mitigate the number of non-emergency calls to the Sheriff's Department and emergency dispatch lines.

***You can opt-in to the "Controlled Burns" Wireless Emergency Notification System (WENS) by emailing Glenn Boyd (gboyd@ouraycountyco.gov) AFTER you sign up for WENS. You can sign-up for WENS here***
